Jamaat wants election after minimum reforms, says Secretary General

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that national elections to be held at a reasonable time after minimum reforms. However, it is difficult to say exactly how long or how many years this reasonable time will be. National elections can be held only if an environment for fair elections is created after making reforms in the Election Commission, Police Administration and Executive bodies.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the Meherpur District Jamaat's workers' conference held at Dr. Shahid Shamsujoha Park on 22nd November, Friday.

Central Executive Council member and Jessore-Kushtia Region’s coordinator Mubarak Hossain spoke as a special guest at the conference. Among others, Central Majlish-e-Shura member and Jessore-Kushtia regional team member Dr. Alamgir Bishshash, Chuadanga District Jamaat Ameer Ruhul Amin, Meherpur District Nayeb Ameer Mahbubul Alam, and Secretary Mr. Iqbal Hossain spoke on the occasion.

He also said that Jamaat has deep relations with all political organizations of the country including BNP. Dialogue is going on with all parties including other Islamic parties. Jamaat will contest the elections in alliance with those who will remain united for the sake of democracy.

Regarding the ban on Bangladesh Chhatra League, he said that Jamaat was banned four days before August 5. But after that, Awami League and Chhatra League could not survive even four days. Sheikh Hasina and her relatives were forced to flee the country to India due to public anger. The people will judge the Awami fascists. Whether they will be able to come to the elections will depend on the will of the people. He also said that, murderer Sheikh Hasina will be brought to justice through legal process and the punishment will be ensured.

Mubarak Hossain said that the fascist Awami government has not allowed the citizens of the country to vote in last 15 years. They have strangled the democracy of the country. The democratic and constitutional institutions of the country have been destroyed. In this situation, it is not possible to hold fair elections. First of all, the institutions related to elections need to be reformed. We hope that the interim government will respect the people's wishes by creating a fair environment for holding elections as soon as possible.

Thousands of leaders and activists of the district Jamaat participated in the conference chaired by District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tajuddin Khan.
