Jamaat Ameer held meeting with the Expatriate Welfare Council in London

The Country should be governed by honest, courageous, and hardworking youth

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "We want to hand over the country to honest, hardworking, and courageous young people." He made these remarks while addressing a meeting as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Expatriate Welfare Council (NRB’s Voice) at the Royal Regency in London on November 14.

The meeting was chaired by Abdul Bari, President of the Expatriate Welfare Council, and conducted by council's secretary Syed Ahbab Hossain. In his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also stated the issue about how to bring the bodies of expatriates who pass away in various Middle Eastern countries back to Bangladesh. He emphasized that the government should consider how to facilitate this process. Most of what expatriates earn usually sent back to the birthland and this is why they are unable to deposit money for repatriating their bodies. "We call them 'remittance warriors' in words, but in reality, we are not doing what should be done for them."

Dr. Rahman pointed out that those who have gained citizenship in Western countries no longer send their bodies back to Bangladesh after death because their families are residing over there. He stressed that Islam advocates for the quick burial of the deceased, which gets more complicated due to repatriation process.

He also called on expatriates to come forward and contribute to the rebuilding of Bangladesh through investment. He said, "Expatriates want to contribute to the welfare of the country in two ways—through charity and investment. While charity is often hampered due to difficulties, even starting a business is a complex process, requiring navigating numerous obstacles. We are calling for investment, but there must be an environment conducive to it. The current government may not be able to create everything within their time, but we hope they will pave the way for future leaders to follow."

He emphasized, "We are not desperate for power. Some go to power and destroy the country, while others, even without holding power, contribute greatly to the nation due to their sincerity. If you trust us with this responsibility, and if you believe we are worthy of your vote, we will always dedicate ourselves to serving the nation."

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also discussed the importance of unity, saying, "At the end of the day, Bangladesh is our everything. If we break it down by caste, religion, or ethnicity, we will never achieve anything meaningful. Many criticize our manpower, but the real issue is that we cannot turn our children's hands into productive hands. We haven't focused on skill development. We distribute certificates year after year, but these papers do not speak for themselves. If we could train these hands this large manpower would never be a curse."

Among others, Barrister Abu Bakar Molla, Vice President of the council Mr. Faizur Rahman, former President Mr. Ashikur Rahman, Council Advisor Mr. Saghir Bakht Farooq, Mr. Sana Ullah, Councilor Mr. Faruk Chowdhury, President Mrs. Ayesha Chowdhury, Treasurer Mr. Abdul Halim Chowdhury, and Mr. Abu Nasir Muzaheed spoke on the occasion.
