Jamaat-e-Islami’s delegations meets Chief Advisor

Today on 5th October, Saturday afternoon, upon the invitation of Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of the incumbent interim government, a delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami met him at his office located at State Guest House Jamuna. After the meeting, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman talked to the journalists and gave a brief description of the meeting.

Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "We want to inform the countrymen through you that, following 15 years of misrule, a major change has taken place in the country through a massive revolution. The people of the country welcomed this change. Once again, we congratulate and thank all those who led this popular uprising, who gave their lives, and who participated in this home both from home and abroad. At this time, I seek the blessings for the departed souls who have sacrificed their lives. We have also called upon the government to ensure proper treatment of the injured and pray to Allah Almighty seeking their quick recovery.

He also said that journalists are the conscience of the nation and the media is the mirror of the society. For various reasons, you could not work properly according to your conscience for 15 and a half years. In many cases you have been forced to mislead the society, by publishing false and fabricated news. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has experienced the worst sufferings as well. But we don't want to dwell on the past. We want to contribute according to the aspirations of the countrymen. That's why I left behind what happened in the past. However, we are demanding to ensure justice for those who are accused in specific charges, who have killed, looted, smuggled the country's money to abroad and consequently facilitated a luxurious life style over there. As we have been oppressed; We do not want to oppress them. We want to ensure justice.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, we came today for the greater interest of the nation. This government is a non-partisan, interim government. They did not come to rule the country. Their job is to provide fair and peaceful elections to the nation. That's why they will work on some basic issues, some reforms, and we have talked about those issues today. We will present our proposals to the nation formally through you on the 9th of this month, Inshallah.

We also talked about the ongoing law and order situation in the country. We discussed how the people of the country and the government can work together to further develop law and order situation and how to keep the nation united in preventing all kinds of conspiracies. We hope that the interim government will take the country to a better place within a certain period of time from a neutral point of view.

We want to give reasonable time to the government for reforms. We will soon work out what this reasonable time will be and that is how we intend to move forward. We request you to fulfill this expectation of the nation and come forward to build a beautiful Bangladesh without discrimination in the future, where a society based on justice will be established and no one will be oppressed.

Jamaat Ameer said that the upcoming Durga Puja issue was also discussed in the meeting. To make this festival successful, public involvement will be required. If law enforcement and people work together, we hope an unprecedented Durga Puja will be celebrated by our Hindu brothers and sisters this time.

Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, A.N.M Shamsul Islam, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council Member Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Central Executive Council Member and Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Central Executive Council member and Dhaka South city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, Central Executive Council member and Dhaka North city Ameer Muhammad Salim Uddin, and Executive Council member Mubarak Hossain were present at that time.
