Central Executive Committee's meeting held

Calls to bring the prices of the essentials and the iftar items within people's purchase capacity

A meeting of central executive committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The meeting adopted a proposal welcoming the holy month of Ramadan and also urging the government and the countrymen to preserve the sanctity of Ramadan.

“The nation is going to observe Ramadan in such a crucial period when the country is experiencing severe torture, repression and crackdown. The government has arrested Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and many other leaders and activists to harass them severely. Jamaat’s central committee urges the government to release all political detainees including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman so that they can observe fasting in Ramadan in a comfortable atmosphere.

Central executive committee is observing with deep concern that the government-backed businessmen and traders have increased the prices of all essentials and other iftar items. Most of the necessary items are out of common's reach but the government is paying no attention to their sufferings. The general people are struggling to arrange their daily foods. So, managing iftar items in exchange for higher prices have made the Ramadan more challenging.

At present, per kilogram of rice is being sold at 60-95 taka, soybean oil at 172 taka per liter, beef at 800 taka per kilogram, mutton at 1100 taka per kilogram. Vegetables, chicken, onions, lentils, dates all are being sold at higher price. In this situation, how the poor community will observe fasting? But the government is paying no attention to their sufferings. If the government were elected, they cannot lead a luxurious lives keeping the citizens hungry and starved.

Central executive committee is also observing that the nation is extremely suffering due to bribery, corruption, smuggling, robbery, rape, tortures, addiction and indecencies. Central executive committee calls upon the government to stop vulgarism and indent activities and also to keep all restaurants and food shop closed during daytime and simultaneously to preserve and protect the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and finally to bring the prices of all essentials within the capacity of the people."
