Central Majlish-e-Shura rejects the schedule of one-sided election; condemns ongoing repressions and arrest drives

A meeting of the Central Majlish-e-Shura of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The meeting rejected the election schedule which has been declared by the subservient election commission. The meeting also undertook the following resolutions:

“Ignoring the views of the people, the subservient election commission has declared one-sided election schedule and the Majlish-e-Shura rejected the schedule. The government has used its subservient commission to declare such schedule and put the nation into severe crisis. Declaration of one-sided election is a part of a deep conspiracy. The commission actually made this plot to bring the ruling party back to the power. Following the declaration of this controversial election schedule, the countrymen spontaneously observed the blockade and strike programs of Jamaat-e-Islami and other opposition parties and thus expressed their no confidence upon the government. The election commission have to withdraw this schedule.

Central Majlish-e-Shura opined that there is neither a congenial atmosphere nor a level-playing field which are essentials for a fair and credible election. To create a desired level-playing field, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other top leaders of the opposition must be released. All false cases to be withdrawn. Political parties should be allowed to hold meeting, processions and rallies. Jamaat’s central offices and other city and district offices must be allowed to be opened.

Central Majlish-e-Shura protested and condemned the ongoing deterioration of the law-and-order situation, murders, violation of human rights and arrest drives and randomly issuance of sentence against the political detainees. The Shura also urged the countrymen to remain aware of the government’s conspiracy to hold one-sided and farcical election once again.
