Gaibandha district Jamaat holds leadership conference

The dream of holding election without caretaker government will not be fulfilled

Maulana Abdul Halim

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim said, the incumbent fascist government is trying to stay in power by holding an election without the opposition parties. The entire nation is united to press home of their demands of restoring the caretaker government system. To subdue the ongoing movement, the government is continuing arrest drive, attacks, issuance of false cases and repression nationwide. Jamaat Ameer and other leaders must be released and steps must be taken to restore caretaker government in order to ensure a free, fair and credible election. The patriotic citizens will not let the government to fulfill its dream of holding a farcical election.

Maulana Abdul Halim said this while addressing a conference of the district and Upazila level leaders organized by Gaibandha district Jamaat-e-Islami. District Ameer Abdul Karim presided over the conference which was hosted by district secretary Maulana Zohurul Haq. Among others, Jamaat’s central working committee member Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal and former Gaibandha district Ameer Dr. Abdur Rahim Sarkar addressed the program.

Abdul Halim also said, the government has kept Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar and other senior leaders in order to subdue the ongoing movement. The government is continuing its repression against Jamaat leaders and activists across the country. But history testifies that such a repression cannot subdue or foil people’s just movement. The government must give up fascism and come back to the democracy. They should restore caretaker government to hold a credible election. Otherwise, the people will make them compelled to stepdown.
