A meeting of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held on 28th January 2023 with the party’s Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The meeting adopted the following proposals:
The Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is observing with deep concern that, the democracy, rule of law, justice, and human rights situation has turned into a disastrous level. In the last 14 years of the present government, all constitutional institutions have been destroyed. There is nothing called an electoral system in the country anymore. The government is hatching new conspiracies centering on the upcoming 12th Parliamentary election. Although Jamaat-e-Islami is a legitimate party and it had representatives in most of the previous parliaments, however, the party is not allowed to hold programs in the street. Even peaceful programs of Jamaat-e-Islami are being barred.
Jamaat activists are being detained and they are being made crippled through severe torture during the detention. Leaders and activists are being sued with false cases every day. More than thousands of leaders and activists are behind the bar right now. Around 15 thousand cases are under process against Jamaat leaders and activists.
The government has kept Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman unlawfully detained. Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Allama Delawar Hossain Sayeedee is being imprisoned for 13 years, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam is experiencing detention for 12 years, former MP Abdul Khaleq Mandal is being detained for 7 years, while party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury are behind the bar for 17 months. Jamaat’s central executive committee demands the immediate release of all the detained leaders and activists including Jamaat Ameer immediately.
