Today 11th January is Democracy Killing Day. On this Day in 2007, an undemocratic government captured the state office by imposing a state of emergency and also by disrupting democratic trends. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has observed the day by holding discussion programs in all cities and metropolis of the country. Brief pictures of these programs are given below:

The movement will continue till the restoration of the caretaker government system, says Professor Mujibur Rahman
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman said, our ongoing movement will continue till our demand for the caretaker government system is met. Whoever are not inclined to accept democracy, Jamaat-e-Islami will continue the simultaneous movement, Insha Allah.
Acting Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman said, whoever has murdered the democracy, people will not remain by their side. At present, all opposition parties are continuing simultaneous movements to restore democracy. I am urging the government to accept the demand of the people. Give people their rights back. Only, then peace will prevail.
He said this while addressing a discussion program arranged by Dhaka North city Jamaat-e-Islami marking Democracy Killing Day. Central Executive Committee member and Dhaka North city Ameer Muhammad Salim Uddin presided over the program which was hosted by north city secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim. Among others, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka north city’s Assistant Secretary Nazim Uddin Molla and Dr. Fakhruddin Manik were present on the occasion.
Professor Mujib said Jamaat’s former Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam was the founder of the caretaker government system. Even Awami League had taken part in the movement earlier to introduce this system although they tried to hijack the credit later on. Professor Mujib asked targeting Awami League, if this system is your brainchild, why are you denying to restore it now?
He said murder and rape are prohibited in Islam. Our programs are against these types of malpractices. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was arrested after he had declared a 10-point program. All political leaders including Jamaat Ameer must be released. People are immensely suffering due to the price hike of the essentials. Saying this, he further added that ruling party-affiliated people have laundered thousands of crores of taka in foreign countries. Awami League government also captured different financial and academic institutions this time.
Professor Mujib said some pro-government media have telecast a video of a procession to claim that Jamaat has committed some aggressive tasks, which is not true at all.
Rather some enthusiastic policemen have made attack on the peaceful demonstrators. He claimed, following the independence war, Awami League came to the power and initiated a one-party rule and they are trying to repeat the same thing once again. Awami League has killed Jamaat men with sticks and other weapons and danced over the body. Actually, they buried the democracy on that very day.
He said former army chief Moyeen U Ahmed and gang have brought Awami League to power. Moyeen U Ahmed declared a state of emergency on 11th January 2007. Since the day, Jamaat and other political parties have been observing 11th January as Democracy Killing Day.
Muhammad Selim Uddin said the government is attacking the opposition activists. Even religious scholars are not spared from their repression. Jamaat is not a new party in Bangladesh. The party has a long legacy of the movement. If a fair election takes place, the people will give their verdict. He added that this government has committed huge corruption in the name of mega projects. Muhammad Selim Uddin said, under the current regime, there is no option for speaking the truth. Rights to expression are subdued.
He condemned the police’s attacks on Jamaat’s procession on the last 30th of December. He made a vow to build a prosperous Bangladesh with some united efforts.

We are doing struggle and movement to establish justice, democracy, and public rights, says Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher
• Skilled and qualified leadership is the most urgent requirement in Bangladesh
• Whoever got the opportunity to rule the country have failed to fulfill the public expectation
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said, on 11th January of 2007 through a military coup, a civil act by the Army government was formed led by Iajuddin-Mainuddin-Fakhruddin. Such a format of government is unseen in the history of the world or any political concept or theory.
Treachery is nothing new in Bangladesh. Many traitor’s names are found in history as well. Unfortunately, we never had the opportunity to remain out of the conspiracy. After colonization and Pakistani rule, Bangladesh got independence but even after 50 years, constructive politics are not ensured. People of the country have been struggling to secure democracy, justice, voting, and other basic rights.
He said this while addressing a discussion program arranged by Dhaka South city Jamaat-e-Islami marking Democracy Killing Day. Central Executive Committee member and Dhaka South city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul presided over the program which was hosted by north city secretary and party’s central working committee member Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. Among others, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka south city’s working committee member Professor Mokarram Hossain Khan, Abdus Salam, and Hafizur Rahman were present on the occasion.
Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said Whoever got the opportunity to rule the country have failed to fulfill the public expectation. Perhaps, they did not want to do that as well. So, Bangladesh badly needs skilled, ideal, and patriot leaders. Jamaat-e-Islami is working to meet those expectations of the people. Jamaat’s history is ingrained in truth.
This party is not used to act as subservient. We always criticized the evildoers.
A conspiracy can never be apparent in one day. The plot of killing the democracy on 11th January had been designed a long time before.
They began their journey through terrorism and killing people on 28th October 2006 which is evident now. The incumbent Awami League also stated earlier that, one eleven government is the outcome of their movement. So, if the event of one-eleven did not happen, the history and aspects of the country could be different and beautiful now. So, whoever killed democracy on 11th January, should be brought to the book. Jamaat-e-Islami is observing this day as Democracy Killing day as we want to remind the countrymen about that heinous event. We also want to launch a decent and healthy trend in politics.
Nurul Islam Bulbul said the vested quarter had grabbed the office on that day to fulfill their desires. The one-eleven government came to the power as a consequence of the notorious murder incidents of 28th October. At present, people’s voting rights and freedom of expression have been taken away. Corruption and misrule have engulfed the nation. Public lives and properties are not secured. Local and foreign quarters have raised questions about the human rights situation of the country. Awami League has pushed the nation toward a vulnerable state through looting, irregularities, and corruption. For the upcoming days, the main challenge of Bangladesh is to restore honest, qualified, and skilled leadership.

Everybody has to play a united role to bring back democracy- Maulana ATM Masum
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has said, the incumbent government is conducting a one-party rule now. Arrest drives, remand, murder, and abductions are taking place under the patronization of the government. There is no existence of democracy now. The government has destroyed rule of law, human rights, justice, voting rights, and the election system. Bring the excuse of the court’s order in forth, they dismissed the caretaker government system. They murdered democracy. So, we all have to play a united and comprehensive role to bring back democracy.
He said this while virtually addressing a discussion program arranged by Comilla city Jamaat-e-Islami marking Democracy Killing Day. Comilla city Jamaat Ameer and party’s central working committee member Kazi Deen Mohammad presided over the program which was hosted by city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Kamaruzzaman Sohel. Among others, central Majlish-e-Shura member and city’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Mosleh Uddin and city Secretary Professor AKM Emdadul Haq Mamun addressed the program.
Maulana Masum further said, two subsequent elections were recommended by the court to hold under a caretaker government. But Awami League government refuted that verdict and created a severe crisis by canceling the caretaker government system. A suffocating situation has been created in the country since the one-eleven and the people want to get rid of it. To do so, the restoration of the caretaker government system is the only solution.
The national economy is being destroyed now through looting. Unprecedented amounts of money are being laundered to foreign countries. The countrymen are severely suffering due to the price hike of the essentials. Entire Bangladesh is interrupted because of the load shedding and power shortages. He urged the countrymen to be alert against all conspiracies.

The undemocratic trend of the Fakhruddin-Moyeenuddin government is responsible for murdering democracy- Advocate Jubayer
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahasanul Mahabub Jubayer said an undemocratic trend was launched through a heinous conspiracy like one-eleven. As a part of the same consequence, still, the plot is going on to introduce one-party tyrannical rule. There are no human rights or voting rights now. Democracy has been made a whimsical desire of just one person. To solve the crisis there is no alternative but to the restoration of the caretaker government system.
11th January of 2007 will be regarded as the democracy killing day. On this Day in 2007, an undemocratic government captured the state office by imposing a state of emergency and also by disrupting democratic trends. Awami League claimed that the one-eleven government was the outcome of their movement, whereas all other parties remained extremely vocal against that government. To pave an exit route, the military-backed government arranged an election on 31st December 2008 by making a secret compromise with Awami League. In this pre-designed election, Awami League was declared the winner in more than two-third number of the constituencies. As a consequence of the one-eleven government, Awami League pushed the nation toward depoliticization and undemocratic trends.
He said this while virtually addressing a discussion program arranged by Sylhet city Jamaat-e-Islami marking Democracy Killing Day. Sylhet city Jamaat Ameer and the party’s central working committee member Muhammad Fakhrul Islam presided over the program which was hosted by city Jamaat’s Secretary Shahjahan Ali. Among others, city’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Sohel Ahmad, Assistant Secretary Advocate Abdur Rab, Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, Jahedur Rahman Chowdhury, Jamaat leader Mufti Ali Haider, Maulana Abdul Mukit and Advocate Jamil Ahmed Raju were present on the occasion.

The fruit of one-eleven is Awami League and this party is involved in the conspiracy of killing democracy and patriot leaders- Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda
Jamaat’s central executive committee member and party’s media and publicity secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda said this while virtually addressing a discussion arranged by Rajshahi city Jamaat on the occasion of Democracy Killing Day.
Rajshahi city Jamaat Ameer and the party’s central working committee member Dr. Maulana Keramat Ali presided over the program which was hosted by city Jamaat’s Secretary Emaj Uddin Mondal. Among others, city’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and central Majlish-e-Shura member Principal Siddique Hossain, Nayeb-e-Ameer Advocate Abu Mohammad Salim, Assistant Secretary Principal Mahbubul Ahsan Bulbul, and Professor Abdus Samad were present on the occasion.
Advocate Akanda said the one-eleven government was a severe conspiracy against Bangladesh. The nation is still suffering from the incidents. Jamaat-e-Islami has declared this day as Democracy Killing Day which is very significant. The main target of one-eleven was to make the country financially vulnerable and to establish a subservient government of the foreign nation. The conspirators from home and abroad have arranged a farcical election through a secret deal with Awami League. It was seen in the election of 29th January of 2008 that 105% of votes were cast in some centers which are unprecedented in the history of the world. That election was the beginning of the killing process of independence, democracy, and rule of law.
We have to learn from history. If we fail to do so, we may face more suffering. Since the one-eleven, the conspiracy had been made to eliminate Jamaat-e-Islami. As a consequence of the same plan, Jamaat’s registration was declared void and invalid. Still, they are operating a crackdown against Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was arrested in connection with a false case. Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar, and other national leaders have been remaining behind the bar for many years.
The peace-loving people of Bangladesh will not accept this conspiracy anymore. The entire nation is united. No tyrant could stay in power by refuting people’s rights for long and this government will not be able too. Despite the oppression, Jamaat is advancing and the party’s popularity is increasing rapidly. As such, Jamaat leaders and activists should play a pivotal role to establish Islam and democracy. The people of Bangladesh considered Jamaat as a tested force to restore rule of law and a democratic environment.
Dr. Keramat Ali said, under this ongoing critical condition, Rajshahi city’s police is trying to implement the agenda of the government. He urged the police force to be refrained from playing such a biased role for the sake of the public interest.
