Jamaat leaders distribute food and gift items in flood-affected Jamalpur district

Muslims are fellow brothers. Flood victims are also our brothers and sisters. On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, we came here to see you. Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive committee member and central publicity affairs secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda said this while distributing food packets and gift items among the flood victims of Hativanga union under Dewanganj Upazila of Jamalpur district.

He said this time flood has been created due to an overflow of water from upstream and torrential rain. Jamaat-e-Islami has been continuing its gift distribution in Dewanganj, Islampur, and other flood-affected areas of the Jamalpur district. On last 23rd June, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman visited this area, badly affected by flood and river erosion, and inaugurated our food packet distribution and other humanitarian programs. Though the situation improved a bit, we are continuing our programs.

He said a flood is a natural disaster. We have to overcome it by having full trust in Almighty Allah and also based on mutual cooperation, courage, and patience. As a pro-people organization, Jamaat-e-Islami is by the side of the flood-affected people of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Netrokona, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, and Nilphamari districts as it had done before. The government should work altogether to tackle this situation. But this time, they failed to do that as they do not have any responsibilities towards the people.

Jamaat’s central organizing secretary and Mymensingh region’s relief activities coordinator Dr. Samiul Haq Faruqee said Jamaat is struggling to build such a welfare state where justice and equitable financial distributions will be ensured. Only Quran and Sunnah can secure peace and tranquility and as such Jamaat has selected Islam as the means to alter the existing social order.

Among others, Jamaat’s central Majlish-e-Shura member and Jamalpur district Ameer Advocate Nazmul Haq Sayedee, acting secretary Advocate Abdul Awal, Dewanganj Upazila Ameer Professor Maulana Mahbubur Rahman Talukdar, upazila secretary Kazi Atiqur Rahman, Islami Chhatrashibir’s district president Samaun Sarkar and other local leaders were present on the occasion.
