Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a condolence message on September 7 expressing sorrow over the passing of writer, researcher, and veteran politician Badruddin Umar.
In the condolence message, he said: “Writer, researcher, senior politician, and President of the Jatiya Mukti Council Badruddin Umar, was born on December 20, 1931, in Burdwan district, India. His father, Abul Hashim, was a prominent Muslim nationalist leader of the Indian subcontinent. Badruddin Umar was a renowned writer, researcher, and leftist political figure. His books on nationalism, religion, and politics in the 1960s played a significant role in shaping cultural consciousness prior to the Liberation War and influenced the independence movement.
