Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 1st March, 2024 expressing deep shock as at least 50 people have been killed and another 50 became critically injured in a massive fire accident in Baily Road of the capital.
A fire took place at around 10 pm on 29th February in a multi-storied building in Baily Road of the capital. Reportedly the fire originated from a restaurant located in that building that already left at least 50 people killed and another 50 injured. Among the victims, there are members of the same family and a significant number of children. The dead bodies have been burnt so horribly that it becomes difficult to identify them. Besides, many victims are taking treatment in various hospitals and they are heavily injured. I am expressing deep shock at this tragic accident and praying for their departed souls. I am also extending sympathy to their mournful families. I am praying seeking quick recovery of the critically injured victims.
I am urging the concerned authorities to investigate the incident to find out the real reason and to take action in this regard. In addition, I am calling upon them to pay due compensation to the victim families and also to take proper measures to ensure due treatment of the injured victims.
