Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mr. Ataur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7th December, 2016 condemning and expressing deep concern at the authority's move as they have temporarily suspended Chapai Nawabganj municipality's elected Chairman and Chapai Nawabganj district Jamaat Ameer Principal Nazrul Islam on last 6th December.

"The government has made severe injustice to Principal Nazrul Islam by suspending him temporarily from the office of the Chairman of the Chapai Nawabganj municipality. Actually suspending an elected public representative is amount to show extreme disrespect towards the general masses. Principal Nazrul Islam is a popular leader. The government has suspended him temporarily just to deprive the local people from getting due services.

Earlier, he had sworn in as the Chapai Nawabganj municipality Ameer on last 20th November securing bail from the High Court. But within hours after that sworn in occasion, police had arrested him again and sent to prison unlawfully. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against such torture and repression of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the authorities concerned to repeal the order of temporary suspension of Chapai Nawabganj municipality's elected Chairman and Chapai Nawabganj district Jamaat Ameer Principal Nazrul Islam. I am also demanding his immediate release so that he can serve the local people properly."
