Jamaat's central executive council meeting Held

Call to clarify the role of the Chief Advisor before the nation for resolving the confusion that have arisen regarding the elections

A meeting of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held at the organization's central office on the morning of June 14 (Saturday) under the chairmanship of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. After a detailed discussion on the overall political situation of the country, the following observations were expressed in the meeting.

“The meeting held between the Honorable Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London on June 13, is considered very normal by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Because already the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government has held separate and joint meetings with various political parties.

Earlier in his address to the nation on June 6, he announced the roadmap for the parliamentary elections in the first half of April 2026. Following such announcement, he went to London and held a meeting with the leaders of a particular political party. But in our views, holding a joint press briefing abroad and issuing a joint statement on the subject of the meeting is a violation of the political culture of Bangladesh. Through this, the Chief Advisor has expressed special affection for a party, which has undermined his impartiality.

We believe that it was appropriate for the Chief Advisor to discuss with other political parties after returning home and express his opinion on this matter.

It is worth noting that, after holding a meeting with the foreign mission, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman had opined earlier that, elections could be held in February before Ramadan in 2026.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami believes that it is not morally justified to hold a joint press meeting with a party while discharging as head of the state. The joint press briefing of the Chief Advisor after a meeting with a party has created apprehension and confusion among the people about the upcoming elections. Where many political parties are active in Bangladesh, it cannot be considered right to take decisions on the overall political issues of the country by talking to one single party. We hope that the current interim government will create a level playing field from an impartial perspective for holding a free, fair and acceptable election and also to ensure appropriate steps for justice and reforms.

The Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami calls on the interim government to clarify the role of the Chief Advisor before the nation in order to resolve the confusion that have arisen about the government's impartiality and free, fair and acceptable elections.
