On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day on 9 December, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement today, 8 December.
In the statement he said, “The epidemic of corruption is consuming our potential at every level of national life. Violation of people’s rights, administrative inefficiency, plundering of state assets, and the root of social inequality — all stem from corruption. Therefore, zero tolerance against corruption is today’s greatest need and the people’s strongest aspiration.
He said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, since its inception, has been a force committed to clean, ethical, and transparent politics. Jamaat-e-Islami has always spoken out and will continue to speak out against all forms of discrimination, injustice, and oppression.
Jamaat Ameer further said, “In the post-July Revolution period, a new journey has begun for Bangladesh. The people of this country want to see a new Bangladesh built on discipline, justice, honesty, competence, and responsibility. We want to see a Bangladesh where not power, but merit speaks; where not nepotism, but honest talent is reflected; and where justice and truth are upheld in every sphere of life.”
Calling upon the administration, he said, “In this new chapter of public expectation, the administration must be just, transparent, responsible, and people-oriented. A modern, responsible, and corruption-free administration must be built on the foundation of competence, merit, and integrity which will ultimately lead the implementation of the dream of a new Bangladesh.”
Making a determined call to the people from all walks of life, political parties, professional groups, the young generation, and responsible officials at every tier of the administration, the Jamaat Ameer said, “Let us, in the spirit of the July Revolution, unite against corruption and build a new, people-friendly Bangladesh, free from corruption.”
