-Professor Mia Golam Porwar

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued the following statement on 19th April, 2025 strongly condemning and protesting the killing of a Bangladeshi farmer Hasinur Rahman, in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district on April 16.

“I strongly condemn and protest the killing of Bangladeshi farmer Hasinur Rahman by Indian BSF firing at the Singimari Union border of Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat district on April 16.

According to the victim’s family, Hasinur Rahman went to his own field on Wednesday, April 16, to cut grass for his cattle. At that time, BSF members crossed into Bangladeshi territory and shot him. After injuring him, they dragged him across the border and brutally beat him to death with rifles. On the night of April 17 at 11 PM, the BSF handed over Hasinur Rahman’s body to his father.

On the other hand, on April 18, a group of 10 to 12 Indian nationals captured a young Bangladeshi man named Azizur Rahman from Jamgram Danga area in Baura Union of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district, tied him to barbed wire, and subjected him to inhuman torture.

These incidents have caused intense tension and anxiety among people in the border areas of Hatibandha and Patgram. A climate of fear and resentment is prevailing among the local residents. Farmers are now afraid to go to their fields near the border and are suffering from insecurity.

Such killings, oppression, and torture by Indian forces at the Bangladesh border are obstacles to the friendly relationship between the two countries. These inhumane actions by Indian personnel are the reasons why killings and abductions at the border continue unabated.

We urge the Indian government to take effective steps to end all killings and reprehensible actions committed by Indian BSF along the border. At the same time, we strongly demand that the Bangladesh government take appropriate diplomatic and military measures to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi citizens in the frontier area.”
