Secretary General strongly condemns and protests the Hindu-Muslim riots in Nagpur, India

-Professor Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued the following statement on March 19 strongly condemning and protesting the Hindu-Muslim riots in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, centering the demand to remove the tomb of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

“I strongly condemn and protest the Hindu-Muslim riots in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, over the demand to remove the tomb of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb (may Allah be pleased with him) was the greatest emperor among the Mughal emperors of India. The incident of imposing curfew in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India and its surrounding areas due to the riots that broke out between Hindus and Muslims over the demand to remove his tomb is extremely unjust, inhumane and pathetic. Communal riots are happening repeatedly in different parts of India due to the incitement of Ultra extremist platform like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal supported by the ruling BJP. The incumbent BJP government is responsible for such situation. Such communal activities of the BJP government are completely against the human rights and particularly against the religious rights declared by the United Nations. The BJP government is involved in a deep conspiracy to completely wipe out more than 200 million Muslims living in India. It has become imperative for the international community to take necessary measures to stop the Indian government's conspiracy to eliminate the Muslims community.

I call upon the UN and OIC, as well as all international human rights organizations and peace-loving people of the world, to take effective steps to stop the killing and persecution of Muslims in India.
