-Professor Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement on 3rd December expressing deep concern and simultaneously protesting the incident of vandalising Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India and setting the national flag on fire.

In the statement, he said, "On 2nd December, an extremist organization of India namely 'Hindu Sangram Samiti' vandalized the Assistant High Commission office of Bangladesh in Agartala of India. At that time, they took down Bangladesh's national flag and set it on fire, which is highly condemnable, unexpected and unacceptable. We express deep concern and strongly protest over this incident.

In the statement, he further said that vandalizing the High Commission of an independent and sovereign country and setting it’s national flag on fire is against the Geneva Convention, international law and diplomatic etiquette. We believe that this incident is part of a deep conspiracy and plot to destroy the friendly relations between Bangladesh and India.

He said that while India fails to provide security to the diplomatic missions of its neighboring countries within it’s territory, they have no right to talk about Bangladesh, a country of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence. The people of Bangladesh do not like anyone's dominance over their heads at all. We are calling all the Bangladeshi citizens to remain vigilant and alert. Only strong national unity can prevent probable foreign aggression.

He said that the main motto of Bangladesh's foreign policy is 'friendship with all, malice to none.' Bangladesh is a peace-loving country that believes in the principle of coexistence. Bangladesh also expects the same attitude from all countries of the world.

He said, the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala is apparently insecure now. It is the responsibility of the Indian government to take necessary measures to prevent such untoward situations and to provide security to all High Commissions including the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh.

We urge the Indian government to take necessary steps to ensure that such untoward incidents do not happen in the future and to provide security to all diplomatic missions, diplomatic and non-diplomatic staff of Bangladesh, working in India.”
