- Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 2nd March protesting the arrest of two Jamaat activists while they were returning after attending a peaceful demonstration organized by Chittagong city Jamaat-e-Islami and simultaneously condmening the lodging of false case against Chittagong city Jamaat leaders.

“Two Jamaat activists while they were returning after attending a peaceful demonstration organized by Chittagong city Jamaat-e-Islami on last 28th February. In another simultaneous move, false and politically motivated cases were filed against Chittagong city Jamaat leaders including city’s Nayeb-e-Ameer AZM Obaidullah, Muhammad Nazrul Islam and Secretary Nurul Amin. The government is filing false cases against Jamaat leaders and activists across the country without any clear reason. We are condemning such wrongful steps of the government.

It is the constitutionally guaranteed rights of every citizen to hold political meeting, assembly, rally and procession. Creating obstruction to such programs is a clear violation of the constitution. But we have been observing with deep concern that, the administration is repeatedly denying Jamaat’s plea seeking permission to hold peaceful political programs.

In one side, the authority not giving permission while on the other, they are lodging false cases nationwide against Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists. Thus, they have taken a position against the constitution. But no tyrannical government could sustain by carrying out such oppression and torture and the incumbent fascist government will not be able to hold office as well.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir and also to withdraw the false cases, which have been lodged against them.
