Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 16th January 2023 protesting and condemning a report which has been telecast on Ekattor Television on 15th January citing that ‘ইসলামী ব্যাংক থেকে হাজার হাজার কোটি টাকা লোপাট করছে জামায়াত চক্র’ (Jamaat quarters has laundered thousands of crores of taka from Islami Bank).

A report has been telecast on Ekattor Television on last 15th of January stating that ‘ইসলামী ব্যাংক থেকে হাজার হাজার কোটি টাকা লোপাট করছে জামায়াত চক্র’ (Jamaat quarters has laundered thousands of crores of taka from Islami Bank). The entire report is totally baseless, false, and concocted. It was made just to tarnish the good image of Jamaat-e-Islami. We are vehemently condemning this false report.

The report claimed that, since the onset of Islami Bank, Jamaat-Shibir quarters have laundered thousands of crores of taka using the name of some unrecognized institutions. The information is far away from reality and truth. Jamaat-e-Islami had taken the initiative of launching Islami Bank in Bangladesh and Islami Bank was established with the sincere efforts of some people, belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami. The leaders and activists of this party had launched Islami Bank and based on their endeavor, the bank has become the best ever bank in the country. So, the claim of looting the bank by these people is absurd. Besides, the report stated about giving thousands of crores taka to an institution and also termed the MD of that office as a Jamaat-affiliated person, which is also untrue and politically motivated. Jamaat and Chhatrashibir did not take loans through any individual and no option like that is available at all.

We want to clarify that, a vested quarter is busy in plotting a conspiracy to destroy the Islamic banking sector. Immediately after taking the bank control, some ill-incidents including corruption, looting, and giving loans are being taken place. Earlier, when the bank was in the right hand, no incident like that happened. To conceal the ill deeds of the bank grabbers, intentional campaign and propaganda is being made. We are urging the countrymen to remain vocal against these plots and conspiracies. Besides, I am urging the authority of Ekattor Television to be refrained from telecasting such false and concocted news in the future.
