Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 19th December 2022 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 11 decent and pious ladies including a breastfeeding child from Haziganj Upazila of Chandpur district.

Police arrested 11 pious and Islam practicing ladies from Haziganj upazila of Chandpur district on 18th December evening. They have gathered over there to hold a regular meeting. It was not a secret meeting at all. The incident of arresting women from a political Party meeting indicates that there is no presence of democracy and human rights in the country. We are protesting and condemning this arrest drive.

When the entire nation is becoming enraged against the unprecedented corruption, looting and fascist activities of the government, at that time, opposition leaders and activists are being arrested in connection with some false cases just to divert public attention.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir including the pious women and breastfeeding child from Chandpur.
