66 Jamaat leaders and activists arrested from Savar; Acting Secretary General demands immediate release

- Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 19th November 2022 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of 66 Jamaat leaders and activists from Savar Model thana under Dhaka district.

Police have arrested 66 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir from the Vakurta area of Savar Model Thana on 18th November, Friday afternoon. Today, on 19th November, police lodged two concocted cases against them in connection with the charge of creating an obstruction to government activities, vandalism, and anti-terrorism act. They had been arrested from the annual members’ conference organized by Mohammadpur west organizational thana of Dhaka north city Jamaat-e-Islami. The annual members’ conference is a regular activity of Jamaat-e-Islami. Arresting from such an organizational meeting is regrettable and painful. I am condemning such arrest drives of the police forces.

The government is not allowing any party to hold their political activities. They are arresting thousands of Jamaat activists on regular basis and harassing them. Despite such oppression and torture, Jamaat-e-Islami has been continuing their regular political activities systematically and in a democratic way. But no government cannot stay in power for long by using force. Any just movement in the history of Bangladesh could be subdued successfully in the past by carrying out such repression and it will never be, by the will of Allah.

I am urging my fellow countrymen to initiate a massive movement against the incumbent tyrannical government. I am also calling upon the concerned authorities to stop torture and release 66 detained Jamaat leaders and activists immediately.
