Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 22nd April, 2022 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Rajshahi city Jamaat Secretary Emaj Uddin Mondal and demanding his immediate release.
DB police have unjustifiably arrestedRajshahi city Jamaat Secretary Emaj Uddin Mondal following Asr prayer on his way to return home. The law enforcers are detaining the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami often without any substantial reason. It has become the government’s routine work to arrest Jamaat men. I am vehemently protesting and condemning this arrest drive.
The holy month of Ramadan is going on. The Muslim devotees are trying to recorrect themselves by observing fasting in Ramadan. The government has committed a major crime by arresting Emaj Uddin Mondal in this sacred month.
It is totally unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional to arrest a citizen of the country out of suspicion. People’s rights and dignity both are damaged in this process. According to the constitution of Bangladesh, it is the right of every citizen to lead a free and independent life. It is their fundamental right as well. This kind of arrest drive is really painful.
I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Emaj Uddin Mondal immediately.
