Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 12 February, 2022 protesting and condemning the latest move of the authority as they kept Jamaat’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar imprisoned in connection with new cases even after he had secured bail from High Court in all cases.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of the Parliament secured bail in all cases from the High Court. He was set to get release today. But he was forced to wait idle in the jail gate for hours and in the meantime, he was shown arrested in two new cases. With such move, the government has seized the fundamental rights of Professor GolamPorwar. Government’s move is a clear violation of law and the constitution. We are condemning this action vehemently.
Recently, several human rights watchdogs from around the world have expressed deep concern over the incidents of human rights violation by the incumbent regime of Bangladesh. But paying no heed to such objections, government is continuing its repression and tyrannical activities. With these attitudes, the government is pushing the nation towards destruction.
I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Professor Mia Golam Porwar immediately and unconditionally.’
