Jamaat Ameer demands release of detained party leaders and activists ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 16 July 2021 urging to release all the detained leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam, central working committee member Maulana Mainuddin Ahmad and former MP Principal Maulana Abdul Khaleq Mandal and other religious scholars ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and world-renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee has been kept behind the bar for last 11 years. Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam is also imprisoned for 10 years and former MP Principal Maulana Abdul Khaleq Mandal is detained for around 6 years. Narayanganj city Jamaat Ameer, party’s central working committee member and noted religious scholar Maulana Mainuddin Ahmad is also being kept behind the bar. Besides, there are many religious leaders who are imprisoned for many days.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s former Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam’s son, former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Al Azmi and Supreme Court’s lawyer Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, son of Jamaat’s former central executive committee member Mir Quasem Ali, has been missing since August of 2016. But still their families do not their whereabouts. They are passing days amidst severe worries and tensions. I am urging the concerned authorities to bring them back so that they can observe Eid-ul-Azha along with their families.

Considering the humanitarian ground amid this deteriorating pandemic situation, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam, central working committee member Maulana Mainuddin Ahmad and former MP Principal Maulana Abdul Khaleq Mandal and other religious scholars ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha so that they can observe this holy occasion along with their families.
