Jamaat activist becomes the victim of extra-judicial killing; Rafiqul Islam Khan condemns

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 5 March 2020 protesting and condemning the custodial death of Jamaat worker Hafez Nazrul Islam, hailed from Noakhali district’s Begamganj Upazila’s Amanullapur village.

“Police arrested Jamaat worker Hafez Nazrul Islam on last 2nd March. Police subsequently murdered him at night. Several media have defined this murder as crossfire. Such a murder of a detainee in police custody is unlawful. I am vehemently condemning this brutal murder.

It is the duty of the police to produce a detainee before the court. While, the court will decide who is guilty or not. There is no scope of branding a person criminal before the competition of the trial process. Police has violated law and the judicial system by murdering Hafez Nazrul Islam. The constitution and the prevailing law of Bangladesh have not bestowed the capacity of conducting extra-judicial killing to any entity.

I am urging the concerned authorities to investigate properly to find out the personnel who were involved with the murder of Hafez Nazrul Islam. I am insisting to punish these murderers strictly.
