Hamidur Rahman Azad criticizes Kushtia district’s Police SP for his intentional attempt to tag Abrar Fahad as Jamaat-Shibir

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 10 October 2019 protesting and condemning the false remark of Kushtia district’s Police Superintendent (SP) S. M. Tanvir Afafat as he branded martyr BUET student Abrar Fahad and his family as ‘Jamaat-Shibir’.

“While replying to a query of the reporter of daily Amader Shomoy (online version), Kushtia district’s Police SP branded Abrar Fahad as Jamaat-Shibir. We have no word to condemn such irresponsible comment of such a senior police official.

When the parents are passing some unbearable days after losing their son and when the countrymen are shocked and speechless, during such mournful period, this Police SP have made fun of these aggrieved parents and showed utmost disrespect towards Fahad. His ridiculous comment has become a painful blow upon his family.

The countrymen want to know, by tagging Abrar Fahad’s family with Jamaat-Shibir, what else this SP wants to achieve? Does he want to legitimate this brutal murder? Can anyone be murdered simply for his so-called affiliation with Jamaat-Shibir? How can this Police SP make such an irresponsible comment even after holding such vital post?

Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir are two systematic democratic organizations of the country. They are operating their activities as per the law and existing rules and regulations. According to our constitution, these two organizations have every right to conduct their activities in a systematic and democratic ways. So, no one can kill the Jamaat-Shibir activist and nobody has the right to do so.

Police also baton charged Fayaz, the younger brother of Abrar Fahad and one of his sisters in law on 9 October afternoon. We are condemning the incident too.

Kushtia district’s Police SP is an administrative officer. The countrymen think, holding such a vital office, he can’t make such comment. If he wants to deliver such political statement, he should resign first from the government services.
