Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th October, 2017 condemning the attack on the motorcade of 20 party alliance’s chief, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and also denouncing the obstruction in different places on her way.

“The helpless and repressed Muslims of Myanmar’s Rakhine state have taken refuge in Bangladesh as they were victimized by the brutal murder, arson, abduction and killing of the Myanmar security forces against the Muslim communities. Most of the refugees are women and children. To tackle the situation a national unity was a must. But the incumbent government which has lost the public support are paying no heed to this anti-humanitarian incident.

To distribute reliefs among these oppressed Muslims and to take stand by their side, Begum Khaleda Zia has initiated her journey towards Cox’s Bazar district. On her way, a group of armed hooligans attacked her motorcade which left several BNP activists and journalists injured. The face and identities of the attackers have been revealed by the media already. Despite that the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and ruling party’s general secretary blamed the BNP men for this attack which is really shameful. By carrying out such attacks, the government itself want to create instability in the country. I am expressing my deep resentment over such ill conspiracies of the government and their terror activities.

Immediate after a mishap or unwanted incident, it becomes the duty of the government to give order for investigating the fact and also to take measures for the punishment of the real criminals. But instead of doing so, the authority has started blame game which would increase such destructive activities further and the real perpetrators would be indulged.

Losing the mass support, the government is one way talking about elections, while on the other, they are not allowing the oppositions to hold meeting, and processions even in-house programs. Such role of the government would foil country’s democracy and overall development. In the name of democracy, if fascism is exercised, they can never bring welfare for the nation. I am urging my fellow citizens to resist such evil plots of the government.

I am praying for the recovery of the BNP activists and journalists who have been wounded in these attacks. Besides, I am demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishments of the attackers.”
