Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Head of its Central Publicity & Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair has extended congratulations and welcomed the announced schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum.
He stated that the schedule announced today, 11 December, by the Chief Election Commissioner—setting the National Parliamentary Election and the referendum for the same day, 12 February—marks the end of election-related uncertainty, doubt, and suspicion. He further commented that the announcement of the schedule has fulfilled the expectations of the nation.
He made these remarks during a press briefing while presenting an instant reaction on behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami following the announcement of the schedule at 6:30 this evening. At that time, Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council member Mobarak Hossain, and Central Executive Council member and Ameer of Dhaka City North, Mohammad Selim Uddin were present.
Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair said that the responsibility of the Election Commission is now extremely important in arranging the National Parliamentary Election and the referendum on 12 February in a free, fair, orderly, and neutral manner. To ensure that the election is widely accepted, the highest level of responsibility must be displayed, and no weakness of any kind can be shown.
To achieve a desired election, the first requirement is to ensure a level playing field. For this purpose, recovering illegal weapons, arresting armed terrorists, and improving the law-and-order situation are urgent matters—where the Election Commission will have to play a firm role.
He further said that the nation does not want to witness disappointing elections like those of 2014, 2018, and 2024 ever again. Therefore, the Election Commission must play an appropriate role in line with the expectations of the people. Jamaat will extend full cooperation with the Election Commission so that the upcoming election may be held in a festive atmosphere, in sha Allah. Through that election, the expectations of the nation’s 5 August Revolution must be fulfilled—and everyone must strive toward that goal.
He said that the people of the country are observing what kind of steps the Election Commission is taking to organize a free, fair, orderly, and neutral election. He called upon all to vote “Yes” in the referendum to make “Yes” victorious, for the purpose of giving legal foundation to the July Declaration.
Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair also stated that Jamaat, along with the 8 parties involved in the ongoing movement, will extend all kinds of cooperation to the Election Commission to ensure that the National Parliamentary Election and the referendum are conducted in a fair and peaceful manner.
He concluded his remarks by expressing, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami by thanking the journalists for attending the press briefing.
