A court in Khulna has acquitted 49 people including Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar in two cases of sabotage, filed with Dumuria police station. Khulna district’s Additional District and Sessions Judge Nila Karmakar announced the verdict this afternoon.

Defence lawyer Abu Yusuf Molla said, "Prior to the 2018 elections, a case was filed in Bamondia, Dumuria by staging a bomb recovery drama. In this case, Mizanur Rahman and 18 people filed affidavits. Later, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar was shown arrested in this case while he had been inside the jail in connection with another case. A chargesheet was filed against 50 accused on December 20, 2018 under Special Powers Act. Among them, finally 49 accused was included in the chargesheet as one of the accused Dumuria thana’s former Ameer Maulana Ishaq Ali died in the meantime naturally. Two chargesheets were filed from the same complain. One was under the Special Powers Act and the other was under the Explosives Act. Same accused were included in both the cases.

He said, there were 30 witnesses in the charge sheet, out of which the prosecution side was able to present 19 witnesses in the court. None of the witnesses in his testimony could mention the name any of the accused, including the Secretary General. The books which had been seized from the spot were not banned. Considering all these anomalies, today, the court acquitted 49 accused including Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar as the prosecution could not prove the case."

Lawyer Shafiqul Islam Liton of Khulna Judge Court said, "There is no case of sabotage, as no such incident has happened. Even though, the police filed this case at the police station as per the instructions of Awami League leaders only for political harassment. Today the judgment of that case has been passed. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar was acquitted in the verdict. We got justice in this verdict, we are satisfied.”

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar in his instant reaction said, "Alhamdulillah. I got justice, I am satisfied. The case was false and it has been unjustly prolonged for 14 years. Today is 24 years. Even after 14 years I had to appear in this case. This is a small proof of the misdeeds of fascist Awami League. Still, I have to appear in one more case. Hopefully I will be freed from that false case as well.
