17 years were dark night in the public lives of Bangladesh, he claims

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the last 17 and a half years were a dark night in the life of the people of Bangladesh. On October 28, 2006, as per the orders and directives of Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina, they killed hundreds of people across the country, particularly Polton area of the capital. Fascism originated from that day and that spot. The footsteps of dictatorship began from there.

He said these while exchanging views with the victim families of the martyrs and injured victims of the in the anti-discrimination student movement in Tangail this afternoon. Tangail District Jamaat organized this event at Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park in the city.

Jamaat Ameer said, after coming to power on 10th January, 2009, they hurt the proud institution of the state, the army. They facilitated the murders of 54 military officers at BDR headquarters in Pilkhana. The trial of those murders is still not done. BDR, the frontier force has been destroyed.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, 18 crore people of this country were severely oppressed. Every man was a victim of oppression. There was no trace of peace anywhere. If someone speaks a little against the government or expresses their grief, they were arrested and tortured under the Digital Security Act.

Jamaat Ameer said, Awami League has mostly victimized Jamaat-e-Islami during its tenure. The party has lost so many leaders and activists. Many of the houses of our activists were demolished through bulldozers. Many of our houses were set on fire or looted. The honor of our veiled mothers and sisters have been tarnished as well. Finally, Almighty Allah has heard the cry of the oppressed.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the Awami cadres and the law enforcers attacked a large gathering of Hefazat Islam on 5th May, 2013. They were killed unjustly. Similarly, the leaders and workers of BNP of Gono Odhikar Parishad were also tortured. Common people had been tortured severely. Journalists have been killed almost in regular basis. Many of them were dragged to jail under the black law.

Indicating Sheikh Hasina, Jamaat Ameer said that she did vindictive politics and claimed to take the country towards the path of development. Sheikh Hasina also claimed that Bangladesh is a role model for development in the whole world but actually she left the country almost as bankrupt.

Jamaat Ameer alleged that Sheikh Hasina had divided the nation. I would like to thank the student community. We have been continuing movement against the fascist regime for last 15 and half years but finally they made its outstanding conclusion. People of all religions participated in this movement. People of all religions and sections were killed and injured. We do not want to make martyrs as property of any party. These martyrs are the national heroes. These martyrs deserve our respect.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, we have to maintain this unity against dictatorship at any cost which has come through unity, so that another such dictatorship never returns to Bangladesh under any circumstances.

District Jamaat Ameer Ahsan Habib Masood presided over the program which was hosted by District Secretary Humayun Kabir Talukder. Among others, Jamaat’s Central Executive Council Member Principal Izzat Ullah, central working council member Maulana Dr. Khalilur Rahman Madani, Dhaka North Region Team Member Abul Hashem, Maulana Delwar Hossain, Former Ameer of Tangail District Professor Abdul Hamid, Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Khandaker Abdur Razzak, Assistant Secretary Maulana Shafiqul Islam Khan, Hosne Mubarak Babul, Tangail city Chhatrashibir president Mamun Abdullah, district president Anwar Hossain Motiullah, coordinator Monirul Islam, Ziaul Haque- father of martyr Ekramul Haque Sajib and Syeda Akhter, sister of martyr Anaf Abir Ashrafullah and others also spoke on the occasion.
