Jamaat-e-Islami held exchange meeting with Indian Media Correspondents Association Bangladesh (IMCAB)

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "Jamaat was never involved in destructive activities. If it is proved anywhere that one of our workers has committed terrorism, we will apologize to the nation and hand them over to the law."

Jamaat Ameer said this while addressing an exchange meeting with Indian Media Correspondents Association Bangladesh (IMCAB) in Moghbazar Al-Falah Auditorium today.

Assistant Secretary General and former MP AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Central Executive Council Member and Central Publicity and Media Department Secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda were present on behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami in this exchange meeting. The delegation of Indian Media Correspondents Association Bangladesh (IMCAB) was attended by Vasudev Dhar, Pradipta Narayan, Farid Hossain, Rajib Khan, Quddus Afrad, Masum Billah, Mizanur Rahman, Rashedul Islam, Monirul Islam, Abu Ali, Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, Siam Sarwar Jamil, Kausar Azam, Tariqul Islam, Rajeev Khan, Shaheen Parvez, Zakir Hossain and Md. Monir Hossain etc.

Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, Jamaat has always conducted democratic and peaceful movement. Two Jamaat ministers performed dutiea as ministers of the government. Misdeeds like corruption and nepotism never touched them. Jamaat has worked for country and nation and stood by the side of the people during troubles.

Unfortunately, Jamaat had been blamed always for the untoward incidents. Even when an MP was killed in Gaibandha, the Prime Minister stood in Parliament and blamed the Jamaat for the murder. It was later proven false.

He further said that the previous fascist government has unjustly banned us by an executive order on August 1, blaming us for the anti-discrimination movement, which is the biggest injustice against us. We have protected the houses, resources, religious places of worship of different religions so that no one can vandalize them. We believe all people are equal. There is no question of majority or minority here. It is natural that everyone will get equal rights as a citizen. We want to return peace and order in the country soon. The country's constitution, administration, judiciary and political culture need to be reformed. No division can be made on the basis of party or religion. We do not believe in taking revenge. We respect everyone's rights. We do not like to harass anyone with false or fabricated allegations. Jamaat was never involved in any act of harassment and will not be as well.

In response to a question, Jamaat Ameer said that the judiciary has been destroyed. A Chief Justice has been forced into exile. There is no Election Commission or Election System in the country. Instead of being a friend of the people, the police force has become the enemy. Reasonable time should be given to the interim government for necessary reforms. . At present, the main task of Jamaat is to stand by the victims and their families, who had lost their members in the recent student movement.

In response to another question, he said, Awami League fought a liberation war. But they could not sustain their gains.

In response to another question about the former prime minister's staying in India, Jamaat Chief said that it was not suitable for him to leave the country like Laxman Sen after ruling the country for fifteen and a half years. Jamaat leaders never left the country. Our leaders remained in the country amid imprisonment and brutal repression.
