Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 3rd April, 2017 expressing deep concern as a sea-truck namely S.T Salam capsized with at least 40 passengers in Guptachhar area due to rough weather and tidal wave of the sea in the Sandwip Channel of Chittagong leaving 4 passenger died and 17 missing.
“The eye witnesses think the mishap has taken place due to lack of cautions and awareness of the driver of the sea truck S.T Salam. To stop such accident, the naval drivers and operators must be forced to follow the rules strictly. I hope the concerned authority would investigate into the accident and ensure punishment of the personnel who were really responsible.
I am also calling upon the authority to pay due compensation to the deceased’s families and to reinforce the rescue operation to recover the missing passengers.
I am praying for the salvation of the deceased and extending deep sympathy to their mournful families.”
