‘Ashura’ inspires us to take stand against tyrant and oppressor rulers, says Professor Mujib

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has said the day of Holy Ashura is a day of a historical revolution. The Day of Ashura motivates us to uphold the spirit of resistance against all sorts of tyranny and autocracy. 10th of Muharram is not only a significant day of the Muslims but also for all the previous nations and communities as well. On this day, Almighty Allah had saved 10 great prophets of Islam with His divine blessings. While on this of 61 Hijra, Imam Hossain (RA), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) was brutally murdered on the Karbala ground as he denied to obey the tyrannical rule. The battle of Karbala, actually was a fierce fight between the oppressor and the victims. With his sacrifice, Imam Hossain (RA) proved that, no Muslim can bow down before any worldly interest. The Day of Ashura educates us to offer sacrifice and to remain standstill in the struggle of establishing Islam. As such, we have to reflect the moral lesson of Ashura in all spheres of life by protesting against all the crimes and misdeeds.

Professor Mujib said this while addressing a discussion arranged by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka city South marking the Day of Ashura. Jamaat’s central executive committee member and Dhaka south city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul presided over the program. Among others, party’s central working committee member and Dhaka south city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Monjurul Islam Bhuiyan, Dhaka South city Jamaat’s Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, Assistant Secretary Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin and Dhaka south city Jamaat’s working committee member Professor Mokarram Hossain addressed the program. Supreme Court’s lawyer Advocate S M Kamal Uddin, city Jamaat’s Shura member and Motijheel thana Ameer Sirajul Islam, Ramna thana secretary Abdus Sattar Shumon and Paltana thana secretary Shahin Ahmed Khan were present on the occasion.

Professor Mujib said, crackdown and torture are part of the history of Islamic movement. Whoever tried to preach Islam, faced unbearable repression and torture. The present adverse scenario of Bangladesh is not also an exception. The incumbent government has been suppressing and subduing the leaders and activists of Islamic movement. The government also hanged 5 top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami. Many people have become the victim of murder and enforced disappearance. Thousands of people became crippled forever. The history will not forgive these oppressors. Despite all the adversities and crisis, a genuine believer can never be frustrated. We have to take this Islamic movement ahead overcoming the dangers and government-sponsored oppression. Only then, Islam will be appeared as victorious.
