BJP government scraps Kashmir’s special status under Indian constitution; Jamaat Ameer condemns

Calls the world communities to raise voice against ongoing oppression against Muslims

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 6 August 2019 expressing deep concern as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government headed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir state.

“I am expressing deep concern as the BJP government headed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir state. This decision will also facilitate the state's bifurcation into two federally-ruled territories--Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Indian government took the move to destroy the Muslim majority status of the state. The peace-loving people around the world are extremely worried, anxious and shocked over the latest decision. By this step, Indian government wants to preserve its ultra-communal political interest.

The Indian government declared to divide Jammu and Kashmir state into two federally ruled territories namely Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh to change the ethnical and Muslim majority features of the state structure. With this decision, the incumbent BJP government has destroyed the year-long historical legacy of the country. To subdue the massive resentment, Indian government has already put all the local political figures including two former chief ministers into house arrest. The authority also imposed section 144 in the area to halt mass protest. This dominating decision of the Indian government is unlawful, inhuman and it clearly violates the international norms, rules and regulations.

Ignoring the view of the majority people of Kashmir, Indian government has been keeping the state under their control since 1947 by dint of military power. Earlier, in 1947 a resolution was passed in the UN to hold a referendum. The then Indian government initially had promised to comply the resolution but ultimately, they deceived the world communities. Rather, to oppress the locals, they had been carrying out massive genocides, massacres and tortures across the region. The Indian government is mulling to eliminate the Muslim majority people of the state by such crackdown. It is the obligation of the world communities and peace-loving people around the globe to raise voice against such heinous conspiracies of the Indian government.

I am urging all the Muslim countries, international forums including UN, OIC and other human rights watchdogs to come forward to save the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir from the repression and tortures of the Indian government.
