Principal Ijjat Ullah sent to jail; Secretary General demands immediate release

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 29 July 2019 protesting and condemning authority’s recent move as Satkhira district court has sent Jamaat’s central organizing secretary and party’s central working committee member Principal Ijjat UIlah to the jail.

“One of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central organizing secretary and party’s central working committee member Principal Ijjat Ullah appeared before Satkhira district court seeking bail in connection with a false case, filed against him. But the court denied his bail plea and sent him to jail. I am expressing deep concern over the incident.

Principal Ijjat Ullah is a noted academician and political figure. He has been suffering from diabetes for years. The government filed false and intentional case against him just to harass him unnecessarily. As a noble and lawful citizen, he appeared before the court. His bail plea should be accepted as it is a bailable case. But the court denied his plea and sent him to jail. The entire incident is very painful and unfortunate for all of us.

I am urging the concerned authorities to withdraw all the false cases filed against Principal Ijjat Ullah and to release him immediately.
