Charge framed against Allama Sayedee in Faruq murder case; Jamaat Ameer condemns; demands immediate release

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 25 July 2019 protesting and condemning the framing of charges against Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer and world renowned speaker of Quran Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee in Faruq murder case.

"Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee is not only a great Islamic scholar. He also served the nation as Parliament member. He has been elected Member of Parliament for two times from his constituency of Pirojpur. Earlier, this popular leader had been convicted and sentenced in a case of so-called crimes against humanity. He has been kept behind the bar for more than 9 years.

In February 2010, a case was filed immediate after the murder of Rajshahi Chhatra League leader Faruq Hossen. Allama Sayedee's name was included in the FIR (First investigation report) of the case. Later, his name was included intentionally and finally the charges of this case has been framed today. The government has framed false charge against Allama Sayedee as they are always in fear of his massive popularity.

This 79-year-old veteran leader has been suffering from various diseases including diabetes, cardiac disease and several other pains. Despite his physical complications, he was taken from Kashimpur prison to Rajshahi jail on last 20 July through a prison van. This long standing trip has deteriorated his physical condition further.

Considering his age and poor physical condition, I am urging the concerned authorities to exempt Allama Sayedee from his case and to release him immediately.
