Labors dismissed and assaulted in a Gazipur factory for seeking place for Tarabi prayer; Mia Ghulam Parwar condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, former lawmaker and President of Bangladesh Sramik Kollan Federation Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 10 May 2019 protesting and condemning the incidents of dismissal of several workers of Gazipur district’s IFL Factory Limited as they sought a place to perform their Tarabi prayer and subsequent attack of the factory authority upon the labors that left at least 50 people injured.

The factory authorities have assaulted several factory workers and dismissed them from the job as they demanded a place to say their Tarabi prayer. I am vehemently condemning these incidents.

Such dismissal from job violates country’s law and the constitution. Each of the citizens has the right to perform their rituals with full freedom. It is the obligation of the factory authority to facilitate those activities. But instead of doing so, the factory authorities have committed severe crimes by dismissing the workers from job. It is also unforgivable that those workers have subsequently come under attack. The miscreants who were involved with the incidents must be punished.

I am urging the concerned authorities to probe into the incidents properly, to restore the job of the workers and also to take initiatives to ensure proper treatment of the wounded workers.
