Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 10 April 2019 recalling the significant contribution and highest sacrifice of Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, former senior Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and noted journalist, politician, intellectual and researcher.
“The government staged a farcical trial to attain its ill political interest and sentenced Muhammad Kamaruzzaman with death penalty. They placed some concocted discourses and produced party men as witnesses in connection a false and fabricated case. Different quarters from home and abroad protested such unjust conviction. United Nations, United States, United Kingdom and other human rights bodies also called upon the authority to impose a moratorium on his death penalty. But ignoring all those calls and appeals, the government hanged him to death at 10.30 pm on 11 April of 2015.
Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was involved with the Islamic movement since his student life. He discharged duty as the senior Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Along with his active role as politician, he also made some significant contribution as author, journalist and researcher. He authored many books. His books and articles will inspire the activists of Islamic movement as well as the countrymen profoundly.
The nation will remember him always for his outstanding contributions in country’s democratic movement. Till his last breath, he continued his uncompromised fighting against falsehood and manipulation. He never bowed down his head before the authority. He declared boldly, “Only Allah owns our lives. So, no chance to bow down before anyone else.” He also placed some important speeches for the leaders and activists of Islamic movement even before his execution. He made a hope that, Islam would be victorious on this land based on the sacrifice of the leadership of Islamic movement. He further expected that the conspiracy of the government to eliminate the Islamic leadership through false cases would be revealed one day.
I am praying to Almighty Allah for the acceptance of his martyrdom and urging the countrymen to take part in the enlightened Islamic movement for which he has sacrificed his life.
