Mia Ghulam Parwar urges to consider the justified demands of the agitating RMG workers

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 9 January 2019 expressing deep concern as a labor killed and 50 more became injured during a massive police drive upon the ready-made garment workers in Savar on 8 January who were agitating to press their demands of implementing minimum wage scale.

“I am expressing my concern and protesting the police move as as a labor killed and 50 more became injured during a massive police drive upon the ready-made garment workers in Savar on 8 January who were agitating to press their demands of implementing minimum wage scale. This incident exposed the fascist face of the government.

Ready-made garment sector is the one of the pivotal sectors of national economy. Country’s economy would come under threat if anarchy and turmoil is being created in this sector. Already many garments owners have declared to shut down their factories. The workers, staffs and officials who are engaged in this industry are contributing the development significantly. It will not bring any positive outcome if their justified demands are ignored. So, their demands should be considered positively with due sympathy. They are also human being and holds the equal rights of living with their families with dignity and honor. So, their reasonable demands of increasing wages should be considered properly.

In this backdrop, I am urging the concerned authorities to discuss the issue with the owners and the RMG workers to find out an amicable solution in order to bring an end to their ongoing movement.
