Jamaat has no link with any foreign agencies, asserts Secretary General

Dismisses false reports published in Bangladesh Pratidin and other dailies

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 20 December 2018 protesting and gainsaying the baseless and false reports published in Bengali Daily ‘Bangladesh Pratidin’ and some other dailies.

“I am vehemently protesting the report of ‘Bangladesh Pratidin’ and some other dailies which referred a meeting between me and an agent of Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI in Jedda of Saudi Arabia in between 25th and 26th May, this year.

Such a meeting a far away, I even did not meet any person namely Mehmud in Jedda. So, whatever is stated referring that so-called meeting, is completely false. The report is utterly false as it further exposed a request to withdraw Jamaat’s candidacy from Sylhet city corporation election and its implementation. But the fact is, Jamaat did not withdraw its candidate from that election. Though the report claimed that Jamaat had withdrawn their candidate from Sylhet city polls in the wake of the request of an ISI agent. These disparities proved that, this report is not practically relevant. This report has been published just only to tarnish the image of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami takes its political and organizational decision after discussing the issue in the concerned party forum. Jamaat is not interested to do politics as per the suggestion of the foreign nations or any foreign agencies. Rather, Jamaat considers such practices as an offence.

Therefore, I am protesting this report sincerely and urging the authorities of the concerned dailies to be refrained from publishing such false reports.
