Nationwide arrest drives continue against Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists; Secretary General condemns

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 8 December 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Bagerhat district Jamaat Ameer Rezaul Karim, Magura Sadar Upazila Ameer and Sadar Upazila’s Vice Chairman Professor Md. Faruq and Thakurgaon Sadar East unit Upazila Ameer Maulana Solaiman Hossain and Natore district’s Boraigram Upazila’s Jonail union Jamaat’s Vice-President Abdul Quddus and Gopalpur Union Chhatrashibir President Abu Jafar.

“The government has arrested aforesaid leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir from Bagerhat, Magura, Thakurgaon and Natore districts in order to stage another farcical election. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the incidents.

In one side, the government is imprisoning the leaders and activists of Jamaat, Chhatrashibir and other opposition parties. On the contrary, the ruling party nominated candidates and their hooligans are threatening the opposition activists to leave the area. But the election commission is completely silent in these regards. As if, the government is fully determined to stay in power with the help of its subservient election commission by holding another lopsided election. I am urging the countrymen to launch mass resistance against the fascist activities of the government.

Finally, I am urging the concerned authorities to stop all conspiracies and to release all the detained opposition leaders and activists including Bagerhat district Jamaat Ameer Rezaul Karim immediately.
