Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 26 November 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Jhinaidah district Jamaat Ameer Professor Ali Azam Mohammad Äbubakar.
“The government has engaged the police force to arrest Jhinaidah district Jamaat Ameer Professor Ali Azam Mohammad Äbubakar to meet its ill-political interest. I am condemning the incident.
Across the country, police are arresting and imprisoning the leaders and activists of the opposition forces, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir, in order to facilitate another blue-print design of the government of holding a farcical election. As a part of the same conspiracy, they have arrested Jhinaidah district Jamaat Ameer Professor Ali Azam Mohammad Äbubakar and many other party activists from various places. These incidents proved that the government and the election commission are not sincere to hold a free, fair, credible and inclusive election. They are planning to conduct rigging and severe intimidations in the upcoming election. I am urging the countrymen to launch mass resistance against such conspiracies.
Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop arrests, harassment and withdraw all the false cases. I am also urging the authorities concerned, to release all the detained opposition leaders including Jhinaidah district Jamaat Ameer Professor Ali Azam Mohammad Äbubakar immediately.
