Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 18 November 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrests of Sirajganj district’s Belkuchi Upazila unit Jamaat Ameer Maulana Nurunnabi and neighboring Ullapara Upazila’s Purnimaganti union Jamaat’s President Maulana Zahurul Islam and also reproving the police’s raid and consequent incident of seizing Islamic books from Feni district Jamaat office.
“Government’s fascist face has been exposed once again by the arrests of Sirajganj district’s Belkuchi Upazila unit Jamaat Ameer Maulana Nurunnabi and neighboring Ullapara Upazila’s Purnimaganti union Jamaat’s President Maulana Zahurul Islam. As a part of the same strategy, police also carried raid into Feni district Jamaat office and seized lots of Islamic books from there. I am severely protesting the incidents.
The aforesaid incidents substantiate that no congenial atmosphere has been created yet to hold a free, fair and credible election. As the poll schedule is approaching fast, the government is becoming more desperate to repeat another farcical election. The candidates of the ruling party and its alliances are repeatedly violating the electoral code of conducts. But the election commission is not paying heed to those incidents. Their indifferent attitudes prove that this government and its subservient election commission is committed to hold another lopsided election.
The countrymen expected that after the declaration of the poll schedule, the crackdown of the government would come to an end. But we are very concerned as such reckless attitude and activities of the police forces have increased in recent times. I am calling upon the countrymen to launch mass resistance against the activities of the fascist government.
I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of the opposition parties, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami including Belkuchi Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Nurunnabi immediately.
