Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 27 October 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Jamaat’s Central Working Committee member and Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Kalam Azad from Sona Danga Bus Terminal.
“The incumbent fascist regime has been plotting conspiracies to perpetuate its tyrannical rule and as a part of the same conspiracies, Detective Branch of Police (DB) has arrested Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. I am vehemently remonstrating and condemning the incident.
The present government has no more support from the general masses. So, instead of holding a free, fair and credible election, they are mulling to hold a lopsided farcical election. To implement such ill-conspiracies, they are arresting the opposition men, particularly the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. In this backdrop, people’s voting rights will not be attained without a mass resistance. So, people of all walks and sections, irrespective of their political views and identities, must work altogether to press the demand of holding a credible, fair and participatory poll under a neutral caretaker government.
Finally, I am urging the authorities concerned to stop the ongoing arrest drives and to release all the opposition leaders and activists including Jamaat’s central working committee member and Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Kalam Azad immediately.”
