Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad and its Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman have jointly issued the following statement on 27 th October 2018 urging all the fronts and wings of the organization to observe 28 th October by holding discussions and prayer programs.
“28 October 2006 is a black day in the political history of Bangladesh. With due respect, I amrecalling those leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir, who had sacrificed their lives during the merciless and brutal attack of Awami League hooligans.
28 th October of 2006 was the last day of the then 4 party alliance government’s regime. Marking the day, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organized a peaceful procession in the North gate premise of Baitul Mukarram. The Awami goons attacked on that procession and cruelly murdered
several leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir by using guns and locally made weapons.
After the incident, Jamaat filed a case with Paltan police station seeking due punishment of the killers. But since then, no government have tried those killers. Rather, after coming to the power, the present authoritarian government withdrew that case to protect the murderers. By such destructive step, the government has indulged the wrongdoings and as part of its consequences, crimes like crossfire, abduction, enforced disappearances and terrorisms have
been increasing alarmingly across the country.
This government came to the office following the bloodbath of 28 October and seized democracy and rule of law. Destroying the electoral mechanism, the government also hijacked the voting rights of the people. They are creating obstructions to the freedom of expression and freedom of media. The government also foiled the independence of the judiciary. Now the nation is witnessing the misrule of the worst ever fascist and tyrannical regime. Instead of institutionalizing democratic systems, the government has destroyed all constitutional organs as well. I am urging the fellow countrymen to raise their voices against government’s evil-plots and conspiracies.
The martyrs of 28 October had a dream to establish an Islamic welfare state which will defend justice at levels. Upholding the same view, we are urging all the fronts and wings of Jamaat-e-Islami to observe 28 th October by holding discussions and prayer programs. We are seeking kind assistances of the countrymen to make our declared programs successful.
