Police arrests Mohonpur Upazila Vice Chairman and local Jamaat leader Abul Kalam Azad; Rafiqul Islam Khan protests

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 6th October 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Rajshahi West organizational district’s Mohonpur Upazila unit Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and Mohonpur Upazila council’s elected Vice chairman Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Police has made unprecedented repression against Mohonpur Upazila unit Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and Mohonpur Upazila council’s elected Vice chairman Maulana Abul Kalam Azad by arresting him without any warrant. I am severely protesting and condemning the incident.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is a popular leader. The government has arrested him without any warrant as they became afraid of his growing popularity. But there are instructions from the High Court for not arresting any individual without such warrant. The government cannot sustain in its office for long by conducting such oppression. I am calling upon the fellow countrymen to raise voice against the suppressions and tortures of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Maulana Abul Kalam Azad immediately.
