Jamaat Ameer calls to bring all the victims of enforced disappearances back to their families

On the occasion of International Day of the Disappeared, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 30th August, 2018 urging to return all the victims of enforced disappearances including 5 abducted leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir to their families.

“Today is 30th August, International Day of the Disappeared. According to the latest report of Asian Human Rights Commission, since 2009 to 2018, during the regime of the incumbent government, the plain cloth dressed people in the name of the law enforcers, have abducted 432 people of different sections and communities. Off them we got the trace of 250 later on. The people who came back, did not reveal a single word about the abductors. Many of them are still going under traumatic situation and receiving treatment till now.

Among the victim of enforced disappearance, there Retired Brigadier General Abdullahil Amam Azmi, the son of former Jamaat Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, a Supreme Court lawyer and the son of Jamaat’s Executive Committee’s former member Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali, Hafez Zakir Hossain, Islami University student and Islami Chhatrashibir leader Al Muqaddes and Wali Ullah and BNP leader M Elias Ali and former ward commissioner Chowdhury Alam and many more.

The victim families are passing days amid severe tension and anxieties. The parents, wives of the missing personnel become sick as well. They have repeatedly appealed to the government seeking the trace of the missing family members but their cries remained unheard.

The government has utterly failed to play their due role about the victims of enforced disappearances. Though the victim families held several press meets demanding the trace of the abducted personnel, but the government is paying no heed to their call.

Under the circumstances, on the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared, I am urging the government to return all the victims of enforced disappearances back to their families immediately.”
