Four Jamaat leaders and activists arrested in Nilphamari; Rafiqul Islam Khan protests

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 18th August, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 4 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Nilphamari district including DimlaUpazila unit Ameer Maulana Mohiur Rahman, DiplaUpazila council’s elected vice chairman Maulana Mujibur Rahman and DimlaUpazila Jamaat’s working committee member QuariZainul Abedin.

“Police has unreasonably and unjustifiably arrested 4 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Nilphamari district including DimlaUpazila unit Ameer Maulana Mohiur Rahman andDiplaUpazila council’s elected vice chairman Maulana Mujibur Rahman just immediate before Eid-ul-Azha. I am vehemently condemning such unlawful arrest drive.

The government is detaining the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami unjustifiably just destroy the leadership of this organization. Even the elected public representatives are not spared from such crackdown. This government has lost people’s support due to its widespread repression and brutal torture. So, they are in fear of losing office and as such they are arresting the opposition activists continuously. I am urging the countrymen to stand against such oppression of the government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Maulana Mohiur Rahman immediately.
