Acting Secretary General demands release of all national leaders and protesting students before Eid-ul-Azha

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 17th August, 2018 demanding the release of all the detained leaders and activists of 20 party alliances including 20 party alliance chief, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and noted religious speaker and Ex-MP Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee and Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam and also the release of all detained students who took part in the movement for quota reform and securing safe roads ahead of the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

“The government has kept Begum Khaleda Zia, Maulana Abdus Subhan, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee and ATM Azharul Islam behind the bar in connection with their convictions in some false and concocted cases. All of them are aged and suffering from various diseases. The government is depriving them from the opportunity of getting treatment in free atmosphere and resultantly pushing them towards death.

The family members and relatives, the leaders and activists of the 20 party alliances and the countrymen are deeply worried at the present status of the detained national leaders. The government is also arresting the students relentlessly who were involved with the quota reform movement and the movement for Securing Safe roads’’. The authorities are torturing them in many ways.

As the people widely supported the quota reform and the movement for ‘securing safer roads’, so the government initially assured to accept their justified demands. But so far, the government did not take any effective steps. Rather, keeping the innocent students behind the bar, the government is repressing them brutally. The countrymen and the general students become really dissatisfied over such role of the government.

In this backdrop, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of 20 party alliances including Begum Khaleda Zia, Maulana Abdus Subhan, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee, ATM Azharul Islam and the detained students prior to the upcoming occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
