Rafiqul Islam Khan demands immediate release of the detained students; accuses government of playing tricky games

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, MaulanaRafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 1oth August, 2018 expressing deep concern as the protesting students have been sent to jail after denying their bail plea.

“The students have taken to the street for ensuring road safety for the sake of national interest. People of all walks irrespective of their political identities and beliefs, have extended their solidarity to these students. These students did not commit any crime. But the government has shown utmost disrespect by sending to the jail. Along with the countrymen we are deeply shocked and worried at the role of the government.

The government had also termed the movement of the school students as justified and subsequently supported it as well. But later the authority shifted from its position, took them into police remand and now the students are being sent to the jail. Such role of the government is completely contradictory. Besides, the law enforcers are conducting combing operation to arrest more students. More cases are being filed against them. Resultantly the guardians and the students are passing the days amid severe tensions and insecurity.

The countrymen and the world communities are well acknowledged that how the administrations and the ruling party goons repeatedly attacked the protesting students. Several journalists also got injured during these attacks. The government has not taken any punitive measures against those attackers, reversely they are taking the students into police remand in a bid to torture them brutally. We are condemning such heinous role of the government.

Such double standard policy of the government proved that their verbal recognition of protesting student’s 9 points is nothing but an ill-trick. The government is not sincere about this matter. As we are observing that immediate after the end of the student movement, the chaotic and anarchic situation on the streets came back again. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice to press the demand of immediate release of the detained students.

I am calling upon the authorities concerned to stop all types of harassment and to release all the detained students immediately.
